A Josef Albers moment

Currently the Vermont Studio Center is shut down for the holiday. We tend to use this time to maintain the buildings here, and I’ve been giving a lot of rooms a fresh coat of paint. While cutting into the corners with one color over two different colored walls I had kind of a shocking perceptual moment, which I attempted to capture in the horrible image below. The two upside down L stripes in the middle are actually the same color, it’s the the surrounding color of to two different colored walls that cause the two stripes to have such a striking difference.
